Where do we find peace?
The peace that binds you to me
And we to the way we can be
Where do we find like-minds?
I’ve seen the sands of time
I’ve seen every mountain climbed
They are all there
So why all the split hair?
Why the lack of care?
What exactly IS fair?
Because it sure is not here.
Why is it that we cannot live
We can’t seem to forgive
Making judgments with a sieve
Are we so blind to believe
We want everyone to breathe
We don’t let anger seethe
Perhaps we refuse to see
The darkness behind our eyes bleeds
Into dagger tongues, repeat
The only way we are really clean
Is if the grass had undertones of scarlet-green
Friend, friend, my soul begs
Comparatively, I am the dregs
I’d shatter the ground to spite my legs
If you’d only shear the age-old tegs
On this road, there is room
To walk abreast, two by two
I’d never ask you to turn your eyes blue
If you don’t ask me to be you
Many miles past are curse-strewn
I spoke some, you spoke some, too
So let’s trade our ears, let shadows at noon
Touch the ones who need most to exhume
Their own bitter soles in ragged shoes
Swap for a day, then we might croon
A melody with a single pitch and tune
My friend, my friend, let me love you
